About the NEGSC
the beginning
The beginning of what would become the North End Golf & Social Club originated in the early Spring of 2000 when a group of regular North Main Tavern patrons were socializing about the approaching golf season. The patrons (believed to include Chad Atkinson, T.J. Gwizdala, Nate Johnson, and Scott Sanders) were discussing their common interest in establishing USGA recognized golf handicaps. Curious for information regarding handicaps the group explored the USGA's website where they were introduced to the concept of a Golf Clubs without Real Estate.
golf clubs without real estate
Excited about the idea of a golf club without real estate Chad, Nate, Scott and Jerry Griffin got together on April 21, 2000 at LT's Bar and Grill. The four discussed organizing a golf club and a meeting of the as yet unnamed club was scheduled for April 24, 2000 at the North Main Tavern.
the name
On Monday, April 24th Chad, Jerry and Nate were joined by Donald Crosby and Rod Gulbrantson at the North Main Tavern to begin the process of establishing a golf club without real estate consistent with the USGA's guidelines. It was at this meeting that Nate first suggested the name of the club as the North End Golf and Social Club.
At that meeting the first Board of Directors was established with Nate elected as the Secretary, Jerry elected as the Treasurer, Chad elected as the President, Rod elected Vice-President, and Donald elected as a member. Also at that meeting Donald was appointed Social Committee Chairman, and although he was not in attendance Scott Sanders was appointed Handicap Committee Chairman.
